Euthanasia, a difficult decision
Our little Yorkie-Poo "KIWI", named by the people who had reserved her, was close to be euthanized this morning. I say "was close" because many times I changed my mind. I explained to Dr. Dionne my philosophy about my puppies, my dogs. In fact I think I am responsible for their lives because I'm the one that led the reproduction of their parents or who have adopted them. I am responsible for everything that happens in their lives. So the little Kiwi who ran, as well as possible, on the towel, on the kitchen table in front of me, Dr. Dionne and my daughter, failed to realize that each mimic or step we were making it difficult decision about her future, her life. I could not stop thinking that she had fought from the beginning, became better and it seemed to accommodate to her condition. On the other hand, I thought of the suffering she may have now and later in her life. The life she might have with disabilities ... Yes, we euthanasia ... No, we do not euthanasia! Whew! It was a NO! I can not resign myself. I am sure I'll manage to do something for her. She wants. I can feel it. This story brings me back to the inevitability of my choice to make the breeding of dogs. It is extremely difficult to make choices about the life or death. Although this is not the first time I have to make that choice, I do not getting used. I always hope. Once my decision is taken, I assume all the consequences even if, sometimes, that choice was not right. That's what I call the "Passion" and as I will, I am always a happy person.

That's it! I just started a new stage. My work on the Morkie and the Chorkie advance and I had to make a decision. It is not as dramatic because Charlotte, Gabie Jujube will stay with us. For against, Gonzo is gone. I deleted the Chihuahua's page and added my 3 girls on the Chorkie's page. They will be the last Chihuahua of Lillipuchiens. We have now 20 dogs. At each stage, I have a pinch in the heart. I may have a goal, I still struggling to move on. When I look back, I see all the work done in recent years to improve my breeding work. Despite all the experience, I learn, yet, every day. Reglisse's loss affected me a lot but I have good memories of all Chihuahua who shared our lives.
CANISOURCE
Friday the 17th of July 2009 Since 1 week I fed my dogs with CANISOURCE and I left a few days to take stock and 2 explain the changes in food that I do, in a short time. All this history started when I fed EUKANUBA and the store where I get it, has ceased in the format that I bought regularly. In trying to call the company directly, I quickly realized that it would be extremely difficult to get it again. They offered me to move much further to get it and as the distribution was at a multi-national, I had to do business with them. That do not discourage me, I communicate with the multi-national and all I got is 4 voicemai numbers. I should therefore have had to turn to another brand and on the advice of other breeders, selling me the merits of ROYAL CANIN, I decided to make the change. Initially I was surprised to find they had a "marketing" program well established. A breeder could pay a few dollars to feed his dogs, with all the discount coupons offered by the company. I placed, therefore, a first command that was PUPPY PRO. When I first opened the bag I was disappointed because the bites were larger and of lower quality than EUKANUBA. I decided, anyway, to try it. I received the starter kits offered by the company a few days later and when 2 of my puppies have left for their new family, I gave them a sample. The next day both new owners let me know that their puppy had diarrhea ... I decide to go at one of the owners's home to discover that the samples did not contain the same recipe that in my bags. I phone the representative of ROYAL CANIN and she told me that it was probably a mistake from the company and that I will soon receive new samples. The days of the arrival of the samples, I did not wanted to take any risk, I open one of them to realize that this is not the same thing in my bags. I phone again and could not reach the usual representative, another call me and we start to discuss possible reasons for this error and find that recipe in my bags is not available in stores or samples, it is reserved forbreeding dogs ... I ask, therefore, the question: But then the recipe that I'm supposed to give my dogs is not the same as I ordered ... Since I changed the food, I had more health problems, pregnancy, birth, with my dogs and my puppies than good times. I lost 2 of my females, I have 2 others who have lost their hair as it may not. I had babies with health problems which I had never even heard before and so on ... Everything was explained. I began immediately to seek a new food and my choice stop on CANISOURCE. First, opening the bag, half smaller (10kg), I was surprised by the quality of the product. I found that I should reduce by half the amount that I give my dogs. For fun, then I took a small handful of the product and I have circulated to treat my dogs ... All my dogs have literally jumped at the treat. Even my little Chorkie "Miracle", I could not wean, jumped on it. As in TV Ads ... BUT THAT'S NOT ALL! After trying to mix the old food to make the transition, I had to put the ROYAL CANIN in the garbage because they have just eat CANISOURCE ... I had to adjust the quantities to ½ cup for to 2 dogs ...! yes, yes! My 2 females who had lost hair saw it began to grow in just 5 days. Incredible !!! The stool of my dogs are returned to normal. I know I will discover other benefits in the coming weeks and I will talk about it. All this means that it does not cost me more than before but that my dogs returning to good health. I would not even surprise that their health is improving beyond what I had seen so far. Expect to see more ...
CANISOURCE, MORE...
Friday the 4th of September 2009 Here we are in September and I have an update on the change of food of my dogs. I must say that even if the product is excellent, it is not perfect to use as I do. I am able now to weigh the pros and cons. First I was surprised when I discussed with a veterinarian on the topic of food "uncooked" on the market in recent years to learn that one of his colleagues told him that a dog breeder had problems with parasites that nobody knew until now. He said that is better to cook the food as this kills any bacteria and parasites. I am not worried because I know some breeders who feed on raw meat without any problem. Furthermore it could not target a particular brand. There have already been in the past, reminders of traditional brands of food ... For me, therefore, it was not very important. Since I give CANISOURCE there had been many changes on my dogs but the most striking, finally, has been the feces that have become virtually odorless and in smaller quantities, which is very positive for me. For those interested in the value I must say that I will disappoint you because I didn't make economy, however, it cost me double to feed my dogs. On the 'packaging, it is reported that 10kg of CANISOURCE equivalent to 16 kg of traditional food. A 16 kg of traditionnal food lasts 5 weeks and a 10 kg of CANISOURCE lasts me 3 weeks. Do not compare with my data if you have one dog at home because I have dogs pregnant or feeding babies which is different from a regular diet. Precisely on breeding that I had my first disappointment. My last 3 females fedding babies stopped making milk before full weaning of the babies, were even lower energy at the end of it. By cons 4 days after their return to the group, they fully recover their health. My observation is that CANISOURCE is not suitable for small breed female feeding young puppies. It's an excellent food for maintaining that I kept even if the price is higher because ultimately the health of my dogs has improved greatly. Unfortunately, I have to find another brand that will give better results for the feeding. I have 7 litters to come during the months of September and October and I'm leaving, therefore, looking for a new brand. I'll keep you posted ...
NEW FOOD...ORIJEN
Monday the 7th of September 2009 I finally found what, I hope, will be a good choice of food . ORIJEN is the brand name that I chose. This was 1 week that I was doing the rounds of holistic food on internet without really be 100% satisfied. It was while traveling to specialty shops that I found. I first bought a bag of puppy formula and I give it 3 days from now to all my dogs. My first observation is that my dogs eat less, they loved it, make much less stool and firmer. The price is slightly cheaper than Canisource but it seems to be better. I'll let you discover the ingredients and Analysis by yourself by visiting the website of the company: ORIJEN The shape and size of kibble is much better suited for my dogs. The color is very dark which is good sign and the recipe is special. I must mention that 2 of my dogs had small skin problems since they ate Canisource. I'll see if this is solved with the new food. Furthermore, CANDY a small poodle is sensible to food allergies . I can not wait to see if there is a difference.
ORIJEN 1 week
Thursday the 10th of September 2009 This is already 1 week that I fed my dogs with Orijen. I noticed a few changes that I must mention because I'm in "tests" for food. Here are the 3 points that I noticed during the first 7 days: 1) The skin problems of my two dogs almost disappeared. It's very good sign. I am also very surprised that the format of 7.5 kg that I bought is not yet complete. I fed 23 dogs. 2) The stool is virtually odorless and another surprise came to me ... Nobody touche it. With all other food, some of my dogs touched it. 3) Candy has ceased completely from scratch. It seems that this recipe does not cause any allergy. We are buying the food at POLUX in St-Sauveur (2244, ch. John Adam, 450-227-4714). There are several different supliers across Canada
Back to Life !
I'm really happy today because Brigitte, one of our Morkies, recovering well from her past. She PLAYS and I got it on video. While it may seem "normal" for most of you, Brigitte is a huge step toward freedom and happiness. Few people don't know, but I have some dogs that come from a very large kennel where dogs were never go outside. The hens I've adopted, I do not think they had such deep psychological wounds but after a few days, I soon had to admit that these dogs had missed a lot of things physically and psychologicaly. They received food and vaccines, but no attention and never set foot outside or play with bones and toys. As I have already rehabilitated dogs much older, I hope to achieve a better life for these dogs would have "a life" here at Lillipuchiens. The worst are: Fiji, Brigitte and Pamplemousse that are older than others. I can not explain how my heart sank several times since their arrival. Behavior of traumatized dogs circling a small area, hiding in the park when someone arrives, tremble at the mere sight of a clipper, startled at the slightest noise, and so on. 1 year later, my efforts are rewarded by the attitude of these dogs has changed enormously. I have seen during this year that is more difficult to gain their trust. They are still wild even if I can approach them easily. My greatest happiness is seeing Brigitte play today. This dog did not even know what a toy is. The first time I submitted a bone she went into hiding in the back of the park. It was terrible to see. The fact of living in freedom inside and outside, to see other dogs behave normally receive adequate care in both physical and psychological has done its work and is not finished. Futur breeder
To help me in my work on the next generations of my Morkies, I acquired a little F1 male "Particolor". This little guy will arrive in middle of August 2009.
The little Miracle
Miracle is a little F1b TCUP Chorkie. His name come from its birth. Here is the story... Majic (his mother) start the work early in the afternoon of may 24, 2009. She's a 3.6 lbs Chorkie. I expected that she can have a hard time to have her puppies as she's very small. Later in the evening I saw her more and more tired and at 11pm I started to stress because the work was very harder than what I expected. I knew that she will probably not deliver by herself. After 3 more hours of this hard work whitout any result, I decide to help her. It was 3am and Miracle was blocked for 2 hours. Finaly, with my help, Majic delivered at 5:30am. Miracle was dead. He had no heart beat or breathing. I was crying because I feld that Majic is alive and accept the fact that the little baby was dead. Anyway, I put him close to my heart and start a cardiac massage. What a surprise when I saw him take a first breathing after 15 minutes !!! I found a heart beat and in 1 hour he was normal...
